DIGITAL SMILE DESIGN
WHAT IS AESTHETIC DENTISTRY?
It is a branch of dentistry which includes all of the treatments that eliminate unwanted images in the mouth and teeth as a result of various factors. Increasing face beauty is possible with a good smile design. A beautiful smile reflects a high-quality and confident lifestyle.
WHAT ARE THE AESTHETIC PROBLEMS IN DENTISTRY?
Aesthetic problems with jaws: If the upper and lower jaws are too far ahead or behind each other, they are treated by orthodontics specialists and, if necessary, by an orthodontic-surgical joint work.
Aesthetic problems with teeth: It can be listed as tooth crowdings, fractures, and gaps between teeth, color changes, and poorly looking old restorations.
Aesthetic problems with gums: It can be listed as gum recession due to gum disease, color changes and overly apparent gums (gummy-smile).
WHAT IS SMILE DESIGN?
For a beautiful smile, you must first have teeth that are compatible with your face shape and lip structure. At this point, smile design is done to create the most ideal smile for your face by combining your characteristics and opinions with naturality and functionality.
How is smile design made?
Are you happy with your smile?
Do you want to have someone else’s smile?
Are you satisfied with your tooth shapes?
Does the color of your teeth bother you?
Are you closing your mouth with your hands while laughing?
Does it embarrass you to show your mouth to someone else?
Have you ever thought that your smile steered your social life?
Your answers to all these questions will reveal whether you need aesthetic dentistry.
When you apply to our clinic on this subject, you will first have your oral and facial images taken, projected on the computer screen and the treatment planning is done with the help of a panoramic film. According to your special requests, your laughing line is determined and how you will look when the treatment is finished is showed by manipulating a tooth-colored dough formed material (mockup) on your teeth without any abrasive procedure. In summary, before the treatment/design begins, you will see how your smile will be when the process is finished. It is even possible to record your favorite design with a digital impression and to ensure that your new teeth, which will be made to you later, are made in harmony with this smile design.
TEETH WHITENING (BLEACHING)
It is an aesthetic dentistry application that removes enamel and dentin colorations and whitens the teeth. In terms of health, the whitening process under the control of a dentist is completely safe. Some patients may experience temporary tooth sensitivity during the procedure. This sensitivity will pass within 1-2 days after the bleaching application is completed.
WHAT ARE THE REASONS FOR COLORATION?
Consumption of food and beverages such as tea, coffee, cigarettes, red wine and aging, trauma and old bad restorations lead to coloration of the teeth. In addition, the use of certain antibiotics and excess fluoride intake during tooth formation may also result in discolorations.
HOW IS WHITENING APPLIED?
Home bleaching: In routine practice; a whitening gel is applied to the patient in a transparent plate, produced according to the impression taken from the patient, while the patient continues daily life. The duration varies according to the degree of discoloration of the color.
Office bleaching: It is a whitening method applied by dentists in a single session with the help of light sources, and shows faster results than home bleaching.
COMPOSITE RESTORATIONS (ADHESIVE SYSTEM)
In today’s dentistry, it has become a principle to fulfill the wishes and treatment processes of patients with minimum material loss. Current adhesive system restoration materials provide a lot of convenience to the dentists in fulfilling this principle.
Some aesthetic applications that can be done without any abrasion (without any loss of substance):
- Filling the spaces between teeth
- Lengthening of tooth sizes
- Fractured tooth restorations
- Small contour changes
- Elimination of small crowdings
PORCELAIN FILLING (INLAY - ONLAY CERAMIC FILLING)
After the cleaning of the caries is completed in the excessively damaged tooth, the existing gap’s impression is taken by three-dimensional scanning with the CAD-CAM system digital impression device. By enlarging the image on the design computer, the restoration margins of the tooth to be restored are designed by drawing very precisely. After the design of the 3D porcelain filling, the porcelain block, which is suitable for our restoration, is installed to the scraper device of the CAD-CAM system. The details of our designed restoration are sent to the scraper and scraping from the porcelain block is started. In about 20 minutes, (while our patient is drinking his coffee in the waiting room) as soon as the process of scraping is finished and the glaze is applied in the porcelain oven, the patient can be taken to the dentist’s chair and the porcelain filling restoration(inlay-onlay) can be placed.
Advantages:
- It is perfectly compatible with the tooth
- Color is fully compatible
- In the long-term, there are no leaks from the filling margins
- It is much more durable
- Sensitivity is less against cold-hot effects
METAL-FREE PORCELAINS
Porcelain is the closest and the healthiest material to the tooth enamel and has two types: porcelains that are applied on a metal substructure (metal-reinforced porcelain) and metal-free porcelains. Metal substructure; prevents light transmission, causes a dull appearance in the natural tooth enamel away from transparency and causes it to be more opaque. On the other hand, metal reinforced porcelains can be preferred because they are more economical despite their disadvantages related to aesthetic appearance. Full porcelain restorations (metal-free porcelain restorations) are particularly difficult to distinguish from natural teeth due to their light transmission and they look very natural.
ZIRCONIUM
Zirconium is both powerful and aesthetic, just like a diamond. The restoration is obtained by processing porcelain on a zirconium infrastructure. It can easily meet the pressure of 950 Mega-Pascal (9.5 tons) per square centimeter. It is 100% tissue compatible. Since zirconium is produced with the CAD-CAM system, the surface compatibility is great.
PROCERA (ALUMINA OXIDE)
Procera is a very durable and state-of-the-art system that makes tissue adaptation very high and fulfills the aesthetic expectations at the optimum level. It is produced in Sweden.
E-MAX (LITHIUM DISILICATE)
These are the restorations, in which perfect aesthetics and high durability are inevitable especially in front group restorations, and superior natural appearance and color harmony can easily be achieved even in the most difficult cases. These transparent materials have an excellent naturalness due to the fact that metal is not used and the light transmittance is at the same level as the enamel. It is the most preferred material due to being very resistant to pressures as well as being an aesthetic material.
LAMINATE (LEAF-LAMINA PORCELAIN, CONTACT LENS PORCELAIN)
These are the restorations that cause minimal tissue loss with no abrasion from the teeth or only from the front surfaces with minimal (very superficial) abrasions without removing the enamel. It is a very preferred method in teeth malformations, wide gaps between the teeth, colorations and large filling restorations in the front area.
GUMMY-SMILE (OVERLY APPARENT GUMS) OPERATIONS
These are the cases, in which gums appear too much at the moment of a smile. In patients with a low smile line, it is possible to find an exact solution with a small gum operation.
